“She suffered ceaselessly, feeling herself born for all the delicacies and all the luxuries.” Mathilde, born to a low-class, with no money for a dowry, is married to Monsieur Loisel, a clerk! It is a hands-down blockbuster 5-star read for me! □ “The Necklace” is a remarkably compelling story teaching the readers lessons on appearance vs reality, avarice and it’s evil-outcome, beauty and the mirage, covetousness for material possessions and the ephemeral superficial delight that comes along! Whatever may be your answer, do read this short story baring the avaricious and mercenary female, Mathilde, and bringing her face-to-face with her own shallowness, but alas, she fails to learn, becoming more penurious than what she was, both materialistically and morally! Are you willing to dwindle away your invaluable life for coveting expensive, precious, materialistic possessions?

5/23/2023 0 Comments Soul Bonds by Lynn LorenzMitchell turns out to be Sammi’s soul mate, and not only can Sammi read Mitchell’s thoughts but Mitchell can read Sammi’s also. Instead, what he finds is Mitchell, a man who’d lost someone and has never quite recovered from it, but upon meeting Sammi, he instantly starts to feel something again. Review: Soul Bonds begins with Sammi on the run from Donovan, and that’s when Sammi heads towards a bar where he hopes to find someone who will hide him until he figures out what to do. It has been revised and re-edited for re-release with Pride Publishing. Publisher’s Note: This book has previously been released elsewhere. Reader Advisory: This book deals with the sex slave industry and people who are held against their will. Is the bond between Mitchell and Sammi strong enough to stand up against the damage Donovan inflicts on their lives or will it shatter? He’s prepared to destroy anyone who stands in his way to get back his prized slave. But Sammi’s owner Donovan isn’t going to let him go so easily. Sammi is sex on two legs and seems to know just what Mitchell wants from a lover. When they meet in a bar, Mitchell can’t believe his luck. Sammi is a runaway sex slave who’ll do anything to stay free. Mitchell’s tired of one night stands and casual encounters. I’m glad to see it’s come back.īlurb: Sammi knows just what his lovers want. The phrase “ring in the New Year” most likely derives from the tradition of bell-ringing to mark important events throughout life, like weddings or graduations. Is it “ring in the New Year” or “bring in the New Year”? Well, both. Rather, the apostrophe in “season’s greetings” is more accurately equated to the word “of.” 2 The apostrophe tells us that the greetings are regarding the current season (and all the holidays in it.) Apostrophes mark possession, but the degree can vary, which makes “season’s greetings” a bit counter-intuitive The glad tidings don’t belong to the season in the same way that Frosty’s top hat belongs to him. When writing the phrase, it is standard English to place the apostrophe after the N and before the S in “seasons.” Here’s a tip: The correct formatting is “Season’s Greetings”-with the apostrophe. This binarism is itself founded with the same principles as the by Derrida much disputed opposi¬tional pair of the spoken and written word.įurther, with true love understood as a discursive construction, the inquiry will show that this construction presuppose the notion of the public and private spheres of bourgeois society, where the public is reserved for the male and the private for the female. Examinating typi¬cal logocentric binarisms the essay will show that the notion of true love is constituting a term in an oppositional relation with, in this specific case, the marriage sanctioned by society. With Derrida’s conception of deconstruction, the analysis will reveal the constructedness of the true love in Söderbergs novel. In this essay, I will examine this notion of love as a prediscursive value, by means pro¬vided by foremost poststructuralist theory. The story about Arvid Stjärnblom and Lydia Stille and their extramarital love is marked by timeless universality. 2007 (Svenska) Självständigt arbete på avancerad nivå (magisterexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hp Studentuppsats Abstract ĭen allvarsamma leken (1912) by Hjalmar Söderberg has been regarded as one of the greatest love novels of Swedish literature. 5/22/2023 0 Comments Nir eyal booksreaching for our phones, with careful planning. Our actions are prompted by triggers, both internal (cold or hunger or sadness) and external (the ping of a smartphone notification or a chatty colleague passing by).īut, argues Eyal, we can take steps to “retrain and regain our brains”, and we can avoid impulsiveness, i.e. The premise is that every action either moves us away from our goals (distraction) or towards them (traction). Indistractable is both handbook and toolkit for overcoming distraction and leading a more fulfilling life. The reason it didn’t work, Eyal tells me, is because technology is not going away–we need it for our livelihoods–and because those books failed to confront the psychology of why we get distracted. I would start looking at books on my shelf or doing laundry.” In short, he replaced one distraction for another. “I even bought a 1990s word processor off eBay that didn’t have an internet connection and I used that for a while. 5/22/2023 0 Comments Berlin jason lutes hardcoverLavish salons, crumbling sidewalks, dusty attics, and train stations: all these places come alive in Lutes’ masterful hand. The city itself is the central protagonist in this historical fiction. Lutes weaves these characters’ lives into the larger fabric of a city slowly ripping apart. Why Is Sex Fun? The Evolution of Human Sexuality More than a century after the last hams were hung to smoke in that chamber, the aroma of salt, smoke, and air-dried pork still permeates the rough masonry walls and clay floor, filling the air with its earthy perfume.Įven after centuries of culinary transformations throughout the South, that fragrance lingers in kitchens throughout the region. To begin to understand the place that this iconic food holds in the hearts of southerners, Damon Lee Fowler writes, one has only to step into the historic smokehouse of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and take a deep breath. While the hindquarters of swine have been preserved in salt the world over for thousands of years, there are only a few places on earth where ham is as celebrated or integral to the cuisine as it is in the American South. 5/22/2023 0 Comments Lover awakened jr ward hardcoverHowever, we know that Bella is still alive and being held captive by the lessers but she is beginning to develop almost Stockholm Syndrome like feelings towards Mr. Zsadist is confused by a lot of his feeling towards Bella as the last woman who truly wanted him was the woman who made him her pleasure slave so he doesn’t associate those feelings with anything good which explains his reactions towards the end of Lover Eternal. In the opening section of the novel, we learn that it has been several weeks since Bella has been taken and most have written her off as dead including her own family but Zsadist is still looking for her even though he knows that she is most likely dead because he can’t give up on her. Review: After finishing Lover Eternal we got hints of the next story being Zsadist’s and I was correct and I couldn’t wait to jump into it as we have seen so many facets to this man already and I can’t wait to delve deeper into his personality, history, and eventual relationship with Bella.
